HttpKernel Component
====================
2011-12-18 13:18:13 +00:00
HttpKernel provides the building blocks to create flexible and fast HTTP-based
frameworks.
2014-11-24 12:25:40 +00:00
``HttpKernelInterface`` is the core interface of the Symfony full-stack
2011-12-18 13:18:13 +00:00
framework:
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
```php
interface HttpKernelInterface
{
/**
* Handles a Request to convert it to a Response.
*
2014-11-30 13:33:44 +00:00
* @param Request $request A Request instance
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
*
* @return Response A Response instance
*/
function handle(Request $request, $type = self::MASTER_REQUEST, $catch = true);
}
```

It takes a ``Request`` as an input and should return a ``Response`` as an
output. Using this interface makes your code compatible with all frameworks
2014-11-24 12:25:40 +00:00
using the Symfony components. And this will give you many cool features for
2011-12-18 13:18:13 +00:00
free.
2014-11-24 12:25:40 +00:00
Creating a framework based on the Symfony components is really easy. Here is
a very simple, but fully-featured framework based on the Symfony components:
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
```php
$routes = new RouteCollection();
$routes->add('hello', new Route('/hello', array('_controller' =>
function (Request $request) {
return new Response(sprintf("Hello %s", $request->get('name')));
}
)));
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$request = Request::createFromGlobals();
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$context = new RequestContext();
$context->fromRequest($request);
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$matcher = new UrlMatcher($routes, $context);
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$dispatcher = new EventDispatcher();
$dispatcher->addSubscriber(new RouterListener($matcher));
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$resolver = new ControllerResolver();
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$kernel = new HttpKernel($dispatcher, $resolver);
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$kernel->handle($request)->send();
```
2014-11-24 12:25:40 +00:00
This is all you need to create a flexible framework with the Symfony
2011-12-18 13:18:13 +00:00
components.
Want to add an HTTP reverse proxy and benefit from HTTP caching and Edge Side
Includes?
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
```php
$kernel = new HttpKernel($dispatcher, $resolver);
2011-12-18 13:18:13 +00:00
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$kernel = new HttpCache($kernel, new Store(__DIR__.'/cache'));
```
Want to functional test this small framework?
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
```php
$client = new Client($kernel);
$crawler = $client->request('GET', '/hello/Fabien');
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
$this->assertEquals('Fabien', $crawler->filter('p > span')->text());
```
Want nice error pages instead of ugly PHP exceptions?
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
```php
$dispatcher->addSubscriber(new ExceptionListener(function (Request $request) {
$msg = 'Something went wrong! ('.$request->get('exception')->getMessage().')';
2014-09-26 11:51:50 +01:00
return new Response($msg, 500);
}));
```
2011-12-18 13:18:13 +00:00
And that's why the simple looking ``HttpKernelInterface`` is so powerful. It
gives you access to a lot of cool features, ready to be used out of the box,
with no efforts.
