When an exception occured:
If you have not set a verbose mode when running the command, you don't have information about the file and the line on which the exception occured.
So you must run a second time the command but the exception may not occured this time (if based on some databases datas which have changed) and it's a waste of time if you process is very long and the exception occured at the end.
The feature #21003 solve the problem if you are in a standard Symfony edition, if you leave the default settings and if you are in dev mode

For
```yaml
_defaults:
autoconfigure: true
App\:
resource: '../../src/*'
App\Command\FooCommand:
tags:
- { name: console.command, command: foo }
```
Before you get the following error:
> Missing "command" attribute on tag "console.command" for service "App\Command\FooCommand"
Now the command is lazy.

Btw, @Tobion's https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/22734#discussion_r127410411
> Wouldn't it be more straightforward if aliases are just the additional tags using the command attribute as well?
Then there is no need for an alias property at all and this strange condition doesn't apply either.
Partially addressed here by removing the need for repeating the `command` attribute on each `console.command` tag
```yaml
# before
tags:
- { name: console.command, command: foo }
- { name: console.command, command: foo, alias: foobar }
# after
tags:
- { name: console.command, command: foo }
- { name: console.command, alias: foobar }
```
Tobias proposal:
```yaml
tags:
- { name: console.command, command: app:my-command }
- { name: console.command, command: app:my-alias }
```
I wanted to propose exactly the same at first, but finally found more clear to add a specific attribute for aliases, especially because relying on the order on which tags are defined sounds less good to me. Please tell me about your preference.
(And sorry for the noise around this feature, I want to polish it for 3.4)

| Doc PR | todo (with https://github.com/symfony/symfony-docs/issues/8147)
So standalone applications can also benefit from the lazy loading feature without requiring a PSR-11 implementation specifically for this need.
The loader does not memoize any resolved command from factories, as it's the `Application` responsibility and the `ContainerCommandLoader` does not either (the PSR-11 does not enforce two successive calls to return the same value).

When generic exceptions were replaced by domain exceptions in dd17dc00ee one catch statement was missed. The existing code works fine because a `RuntimeException` extends a `\RuntimeException`.

The bar width is badly recalculated when we use multilines (``\n``) and bar placeholer (``%bar%``) in ProgressBar's format. The bar width is reduced because multilines is considered as a big oneline. This PR fixes this.

Happens now that the console.error event is dispatched on command not found, I ran into using `server:run` on 3.3 without `web-server-bundle` enabled:
> PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Symfony\Component\Debug\Exception\FatalThrowableError: Call to a member function getName() on null
In this case, this first tries to cast the event input as string (less good than when the command name is available, there're extra quotes around the command name) and, if can't be casted, uses a generic message.

Fixes an issue with newlines and table cells. Remembered this little trick from @chalasr as we had it before with style blocks i believe..
```php
$table = new Table($output);
$table->setRows(array(
array(new TableCell('<error>Dont break'."\n".'here</error>', array('colspan' => 2))),
new TableSeparator(),
array('foo', new TableCell('<error>Dont break'."\n".'here</error>', array('rowspan' => 2))),
array('bar'),
));
$table->render();
By default, the command tester relies on [color support guessing](3fe419cf66/src/Symfony/Component/Console/Output/StreamOutput.php (L91)) to enable output decoration.
This is an issue for tests in that guessing is done against the stream instance on Linux and against the actual environment running the test on Windows, so color support can be detected on Windows even when the used stream is a memory stream like here, resulting in non-deterministic tests.
This PR disables output decoration by default. This will only change behavior on Windows with color support, as guessing on Linux always detects color as not supported for memory streams anyway. Tests should enable decoration explicitly when they want to test it.
A better fix would be to actually detect that we are using a memory stream on Windows as well, but I'm not sure it's possible.
## The Problem
The current `console.EXCEPTION` event is only dispatched for exceptions during the execution of `Command#execute()`. All other exceptions (e.g. the ones thrown by listeners to events) are catched by the `try ... catch` loop in `Application#doRunCommand()`. This means that there is _no way to override exception handling_.
## The Solution
This PR adds a `console.ERROR` event which has the same scope as the default `try ... catch` loop. This allows to customize all exception handling.
In order to keep BC, a new event was created and `console.EXCEPTION` was deprecated.
A bit frustrated to revert this change since the BC break report lacks of information, making us unable to reproduce nor to look at improving the situation.
I'm going to re-propose this on master, covering the BC break that is identified, fixed and tested using the changes made in #21953. That will let the choice for the reporter to upgrade using the 1 required LOC.
In order to add usefulness to this descriptor, this PR allows to jump to a command description by clicking on the command name on the application summary.
It's not a generic approach but IMHO a quick win that should work at least for Github flavoured markdown.
The markdown format should also avoid using `Application::getLongVersion` as the markdown document title, as it may contain tags (and unnecessary information using the framework).
Lastly, the markdown format is now cleaned from tags initially used for console output formatting and only keeps properly escaped ones.
The return type of “ask” is not necessarily a string (notice that “doAsk” may return mixed type).
Same for “validateAttempts” (validator may return something else than a string).
Continues #19382, fixing some issues including:
- ability to display the input string for any `InputInterface` implementation (cast to string if possible, use the command name otherwise)
- if the input can be casted as string, cleanup the result (from `command "'command:name' --foo=bar" ` to `command "command:name --foo=bar"`)
- made `ExceptionLister::$logger` private instead of protected
- changed methods name from `onKernel*` to `onConsole*` (e.g. `onConsoleException`) and removed unnecessary doc blocks
- Added more tests
Log for an exception:
Static closures were unable to be used in Command::setCode since #14431. This change fixes the BC break and ensures static closures can still be used.
Edit: It seems the inability to bind static closures was considered a feature in PHP5 but was considered a bug by PHP7. As such, the tests need to work around this fact - but the code can remain the same. This code change can be tidied/removed once Symfony is PHP7+ only.
~I know there must be a lot of other places in the core where there is some repeated or useless informations in docblocks, but everytime I dig into the `Application` class, I see this, and I don't want to repeat things for consistency when adding new methods 😅 (for instance in #20808, the `setCatchThrowables / areThrowablesCaught ` methods do not need a docblock description IMHO).~
~This PR adapts docblocks where:~
- ~A docblock description is not required, as everything can be expressed in the `@return / @param` argument (the case mentioned above)~
- ~Information is redundant between description and tags, and the context does not have to be reminded again:~
```diff

*
* If a Command is not enabled it will not be added.
*
- * @param Command[] $commands An array of commands
+ * @param Command[] $commands
*/

foreach ($commands as $command) {
$this->add($command);
}
}

Changed `ProgressBar` to `final`, fixed tests.
As explained below, this modification doesn't break BC because inheritance from `ProgressBar` was not possible anyway.

This improves the markdown description for a console application. To make the ouput read more friendly and intuitively (less bloated IMHO).

This PR add the possibility to set multiple options on a formatted string output.
Example:
```php
$output->writeln('<fg=green;options=bold,underscore>Test</>');
```
Secondly it makes the behavior on invalid values consistent.
```php
// current
$output->writeln('<fg=lime;>Test</>'); // throws exception
$output->writeln('<options=italic;>Test</>'); // silent ignore
// new
$output->writeln('<fg=lime;>Test</>'); // throws exception
$output->writeln('<options=italic;>Test</>'); // throws exception
```
All other changes are about making the code more strict or other SCA/CS fixes.

| Doc PR | -
Solves #19719 by setting `COLUMNS` & `LINES` env vars when running an Application.
Those env vars are then meant to be reused when using the Process component.
~~It creates a new `Terminal::registerEnv()` method allowing to register terminal related informations into environment variables. ~~It allows getting "consistent terminal informations" across processes.~~
Unless the env vars handling is backported from the 3.2 `Terminal` class to older branches in the `Application` class, the mentioned issue can't be solved this way.

The [PHPDoc](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/2.7/src/Symfony/Component/Console/Application.php#L354) states the method will always return a command, but it doesn't. Since [Application::register](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/2.7/src/Symfony/Component/Console/Application.php#L328) returns the result of `add` directly is also doesn't always return the command (as its PHPDoc states).

Fixes https://github.com/symfony/symfony/issues/19133
When a progress bar is first displayed, if it is multi-line, previously output lines are erased, depending upon the number of lines in the progress bar.
This patch fixes that be distinguishing between the first display (no erasing of previous output) and subsequent displays of the progress bar.

After @javiereguiluz pointed it in #17470, I open this PR to simplify the simulation of user inputs for testing a Command.
It would be done by calling `CommandTester::setUserInputs()` with an array of inputs as argument, and so make the CommandTester creating an input stream from the inputs set by the developer, then call `QuestionHelper::setInputStream` and assign it to the helperSet of the command, sort as all is done automatically in one call.
Depends on #18999

Actually we have two classes that have an `inputStream` property with its getter+setter:
the QuestionHelper ('question' helper) and the SymfonyQuestionHelper (used via SymfonyStyle, that inherits the inputStream from the QuestionHelper class).
This situation makes command testing really hard.
ATM we can't test a command that uses `SymfonyStyle::ask` without ugly hacks, and we can't find a generic way to set the inputs passed to a command from the CommandTester, as it need to be done on a specific helper that may not be the one used by the command (SymfonyStyle case).
What I propose here is to add a `stream` property (and its getter+setter) to the abstract `Symfony\Component\Console\Input\Input` class.
For now I just made the two helpers setting their `inputStream` from `Input::getStream`, as both QuestionHelper and SymfonyQuestionHelper classes have an `ask` method that takes the command Input as argument.
In a next time (4.0), we could remove the `getInputStream` and `setInputStream` methods from the QuestionHelper class (this only deprecates them in favor of Input `setStream` and `getStream`).
This would close PR #18902 (trying to make interactive command testing with SymfonyStyle easier).
This would also make PR #18710 widely better by setting the input stream in a generic way (working for both helpers without caring about if they are used and which one is used).
Please give me your opinions.

About the second point, it seems ConsoleLogger has the same issue (https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/2.8/src/Symfony/Component/Console/Logger/ConsoleLogger.php#L92), but since we're not using that, I haven't checked it.

This PR is a suggestion about the bug referenced in ticket 18351. The problem is that aliases create new lines with identical descriptions in the application description, it is suggested to show the aliases in the command description.
I had to modify one application fixture to meet this new behaviour and make the tests pass, but I don't think that a new application fixture is needed to test this having the application fixture 2.
Comments are welcome, this is my first PR in Symfony so if I need to meet any more requirements to make it correct to merge just tell me please.

This [line](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/18879/files#diff-d3625f2548a3b329058ca5a0f5aa57feR60) should not have been changed in order to the test to pass. I assume the test was flawed at first, so I suggest to simply test the output as we did for other ones.

The previous behavior caused dramatic jumps in the reported time instead of smoothly transitioning between time ranges.
Added tests around the new behavior and the transitions between seconds, minutes, and days.

See #13730 also for previous discussion.
If someone explicitly wants to use `stdout`, they can simply pass `$output->getStream()` instead of `$output` in most use-cases.

Be able to fix a columns width in a console table (i.e. set a columns width beforehand).
When a column's contents exceed the given column width, it will stretch.
Very useful, for instance, when one wants to display multiple tables that are separated from each other, but still want to align their columns.

Hi !
When an exception is thrown, sf console doesn't show the code exception, while this code is very useful during developpement (for example, [guzzle put http status code in his code exception](https://github.com/guzzle/guzzle/blob/6.1.1/src/Exception/RequestException.php#L30-L33)).
I propose you that we show the code exception only when the code exception > 0 and with ``-v`` verbosity. It means :
- ``throw new Exception('Not found', 0)`` with normal verbosity --> no change
- ``throw new Exception('Not found', 0)`` with ``-v`` verbosity --> no change

HHVM readline() function requires a parameter see:
https://github.com/facebook/hhvm/blob/master/hphp/runtime/ext/readline/ext_readline.php
But the php readline does not require one.
```
In Symfony\Component\Console\Helper\QuestionHelper
…
readFromInput($stream)
…
```
we use readline() without a parameter.
HHVM Version:
```
HipHop VM 3.10.1 (rel)
Compiler: tags/HHVM-3.10.1-0-g689b4969a141620ee5a282ce0dbf72278c84d44b
Repo schema: 6c99ee1f98340f6f3ef397a332583f0e843a627d
```
Docker Container:
```
docker run --rm -it -v `pwd`:`pwd` -w `pwd` brunoric/hhvm:deb hhvm test.php ls
```
Test.php

$question->setValidator(

}
);
$question->setMaxAttempts(5);
$helper = new QuestionHelper();
$email = $helper->ask($input, $output, $question);
$output->writeln(sprintf('Email Adress: <info>%s</info>', $email));
})
;
$console->run();
```
composer.json
```
{
"require": {
"symfony/console": "^3.0"
}
}
```
Result:
No input is possible and you got a warning
```
Your email address:
Warning: readline() expects exactly 1 parameter, 0 given in /clitest/vendor/symfony/console/Helper/QuestionHelper.php on line 436
Email Adress:
```
Fix:
Add a empty string parameter to readline() or use fgets() for hhvm.
The first commit is only about -- support + fixes a few other little issues I discovered while adding tests to cover my feature.
The second commit makes use of the first in the Application class, so that if you do `console foo -- --help` for example, it should not trigger the help anymore, but simply have --help available as a dummy arg.
To keep BC, I did this by adding a param to hasParameterOption/getParameterOption instead of doing it by default. This creates another BC issue though in that it changes the InputInterface. I don't think that's a major concern but it's worth mentioning.
The other only minor BC change is if you do getParameterOption() of a flag option i.e. `--foo` without a value. Before it was returning null in ArgvInput and true in ArrayInput. I normalized this to true for both since I think that makes more sense, but strictly speaking while it improves interface interchangeability, it's a BC break.
Some unit tests have a `@covers` PHPUnit annotations. Most of them were added a very long time ago, but since then, we did not use them anymore and the existing ones are not maintained (see #16413). So, I propose to remove them all.
This is an alternative to the `ProgressBar` helper *without a max* inspired by the `npm` cli. You can use the `ProgressBar` but IMO it doesn't look great or fallback nicely in non-ansi environments.
A lot of work needs to be done still but thought I would get some comments on this idea.
##### Example code
```php
$progress = new ProgressIndicator($output);
$progress->start('Starting...');
for ($i = 0; $i < 100; $i++) {
usleep(25000);
$progress->advance();
switch ($i) {
case 20:
$progress->setMessage('Just started...');
break;
case 50:
$progress->setMessage('Half way...');
break;
case 90:
$progress->setMessage('Almost Done...');
break;
}
}
$progress->finish('Done.');
```
Instead of spreading the same clock mock code everywhere, let's create a test case that helps mocking the time related functions.
[Console] Add additional ways to detect OS400 platform
This PR adds support for detecting the OS400 platform when the PHP function `php_uname()` is disabled. OS400 platform detection was added in #15058 to fix character encoding issues present on OS400. See that PR for more info.
This PR fixes regression introduced in #16053, which did not work on the IBM OS400 server I have access to. The constant `PHP_OS` being checked outputs "AIX" on my IBM OS400 server. I can't say for sure if it works on other IBM platforms... but I preserved this check just in case.
User @eloigranado [commented here](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/15058#issuecomment-130743928) asking if we could switch to using `PHP_OS` constant instead of `php_uname()` because he claims some admins might "[hide] the exact kernel build from any attacker who discovers a remote PHP code execution vulnerability". I personally don't think we should accommodate this use case, but I was able to find alternate approaches.
### Why use case insensitive string matching stristr() instead of in_array()?
Here are the various outputs on my OS400 server:
echo PHP_OS; // "AIX"
echo getenv('OSTYPE'); // "os400"
echo php_uname('s'); // "OS400"
So we have various case issues here, and possible blank values on platforms where OSTYPE var doesn't exist or php_uname() is disabled. Concatenating these optional values together delimited by ; then case-insensitive searching the string for "OS400" seemed like a fair compromise. I would've probably done `in_array()` if case wasn't an issue.
Previously, `$input` wasn't very usefull in the `console.command` event, as the input was not yet bound to the command definition.
With this PR, the input is now bound twice: Once before the event is dispatched (to make it usefull in the listeners) and once at the original location in `Command#run()` (to allow changing the input definition in an event listener).
