<pre>encoding(Encoding)</pre>

<p>

|
Declares the source file text encoding. This is an <strong>EXPERIMENTAL</strong> source file directive, which is only supported on some Prolog compilers. When used, this directive must be the first term in the source file. Currently recognized encodings include <code>ascii</code>, <code>iso_8859_1</code>, <code>iso_latin_1</code> (an alias to the previous one), <code>utf8</code>, <code>unicode_be</code>, and <code>unicode_le</code>.
