The Intl component is now a simple drop-in replacement layer for the C intl extension. Install it via Composer and have it available automatically if the intl extension is not available.
Additionally, the component ships data from the ICU library which can be accessed through the methods:
```php
use Symfony\Component\Intl\Intl;
Intl::getCurrencyBundle()->...
Intl::getLanguageBundle()->...
Intl::getLocaleBundle()->...
Intl::getRegionBundle()->...
```
If the intl extension is installed, Composer will install the ICU data for the ICU version in the intl extension. If the intl extension is not installed, Composer will use stub ICU data for the latest ICU version (see `Intl::getStubIcuVersion()`).
See the [README](/bschussek/symfony/blob/intl/src/Symfony/Component/Intl/README.md) for more information.
Todo:
- [x] finish the Intl README file
- [x] update the Icu README file
- [x] update the documentation
- [x] make parameter `$locale` optional (default to `\Locale::getDefault()`) in resource bundle methods
- [x] remove `(Icu)?Version::compare` calls in the tests
- [x] solve deployment problem when trying to install incompatible symfony/icu version listed in composer.lock
Create the following branches in the [Icu component](https://github.com/symfony/Icu):
- [x] 1.0.x
- [x] 1.1.x
- [x] 1.2.x

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Gladhon at 2013-03-06T08:04:38Z
@vicb
newReflectionMember is a Method that comes from the parent and has no argument "object". So it can only get the reflection Member of the configured class, while we need once (in this special case) need the method of the concrete class.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by jfsimon at 2013-03-06T08:29:11Z
@vicb @Gladhon correct me if I'm wrong.
This method is only used to check the member scope. In the case of a getter, this scope is always public (`method_exists` returns true only if method is visible, then is this case public, isn'it?), so the `isPublic`, `isProtected` and `isPrivate` methods can be safely overriden. Am I right?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Gladhon at 2013-03-06T08:43:54Z
Yes i am in agreement with that.
But I just think about to change the getPropertyValue also in PropertyMetadata. Can that make sense in any case ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2013-03-06T08:56:21Z
@jfsimon `method_exists` returns `true` when the method exists, whatever its visibility.
My question is whether it would make sense to change the signature of `newReflectionMember` to accept an objet ?
That would be a BC break but the implementation proposed here is also a BC break (`newReflectionMember` which was called from `getReflectionMember` is no more called with this PR - it could have been overriden by a dev)
Finally `PropertyMetadata` should probably be updated in the same way.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2013-03-06T08:57:33Z
_and fyi you can both work on the same PR, ie @Gladhon you can send some changes (a PR) to the repo of @jfsimon_
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Gladhon at 2013-03-06T10:22:07Z
Well, i like it how it is now. Cause if we change that, you also need to have a object if calling "isPublic". For me it makes more sence to have only the object parameter if its realy needed.
Where do you see a real benefit if we change the `newReflectionMember` instead ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by jfsimon at 2013-03-07T13:43:43Z
@vicb I think passing object instance to `getReflectionMember` is **required** for consistency.
I just pushed it.

[Validator] gracefully handle transChoice errors
This validator annotation was throwing an error for me:
```
/** @Assert\Length(min=6, minMessage="Must be 6 characters") */
```
To avoid this error in the current code I would need to provide a message template that accommodates the minimum length being 1, even though that's not the case.

Todo:
- [x] Check if the new method should be added to the interface as well.
This adds a check for metadata existence before usage else the code will emit a warning.
This should not be a BC break or a bug fix as the patched code is 2.2 specific.
@bschussek let me know if I should add the method in the interface as well. Thank you.

Strictly speaking this is a BC break (you are adding a public method). But I guess we should better defined what should be describe as BC break - I have asked myself the same question more than one time /cc @fabpot

You should also modify the CollectionValidator tests to use a different constraint than ``Min`` which is deprecated. Once it is done, these tests should not need to register a custom error handler catching deprecations anymore

getValue() is deprecated since version 2.2 and will be removed in 2.3. Use getPropertyValue() instead.
ClassMetadata is still using the deprecated method, changed it to getPropertyValue to prevent a trigger error.
It is more common to use fully camel-cased names for test methods. Only some of the test methods are called with underscore notation. To avoid confusion it is better to be consistent.
- Removed useless error handlers around FormEvent as the triggering has
been fixed in it.
- Enhanced the triggering of deprecation errors for places where the BC
method provide some user logic needing to be converted to a new way.
- Enhanced the deprecation messages to mention the replacement whenever
possible.
This was implemented in order to satisfy Drupal's requirements for a
singular and a plural message whenever a message is passed to their
implementation of transChoice().

Can you let `Choice` and `ChoiceValidator` extend the renamed classes? Then we avoid the code duplication. You can also remove `ChoiceValidatorTest` then.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by ricardclau at 2012-12-14T18:26:58Z
For sure! BTW there seems to be a problem with SF2 build when testing BR currency :S maybe it is the new ICU version supported, I guess you are aware of this but just in case!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by stof at 2012-12-14T21:14:04Z
the ``Choice`` constraint should trigger a ``E_USER_DEPRECATED`` in its constructor (and calling the parent constructor) as we agreed on this. The PR adding these calls everywhere is not merged yet, but it would avoid missing it when merging the PRs separately
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by bschussek at 2012-12-14T21:19:45Z
Things missing:
* add a deprecation note to the Validator's CHANGELOG
* add a block in UPGRADE-2.2 under the Validator's "Deprecations" section that explains how to upgrade with a before/after sample
* add `trigger_error()` calls to the constructors of `Choice` and `ChoiceValidator`
See #6180 for more information about how to call `trigger_error()`.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by ricardclau at 2012-12-14T22:45:55Z
Sorry I was not aware of the trigger_error() agreement, absolutely +1 on it.
I hope I understood everything properly, if there is something else or some other errors please tell me!

BC break: no
The default should be an empty string instead of null because
1. a string is expected according to phpdoc
2. its more consistent with `validate($value, $groups = null, $subPath = '', $traverse = false, $deep = false)` and `validateValue($value, $constraints, $groups = null, $subPath = '')` that both have `''` as default for subPath

[Validator] Refactored the Validator for use in Drupal
Bug fix: no
Feature addition: no
Backwards compatibility break: yes
Symfony2 tests pass: yes
Fixes the following tickets: -
Todo: -
License of the code: MIT
Documentation PR: TODO
Drupal wants to use the Symfony Validator component in their next version. I was talking to @fago recently about the changes that we'd need to make and implemented these changes in this PR. I don't want to rush this, but the deadline is tight, since Drupal feature freeze is on December 1st and @fago needs at least a couple of days to integrate the Validator into Drupal.
This PR introduces two significant changes:
* Interfaces were created for all classes that constitute the Validator's API. This is were the PR breaks BC, because `ConstraintValidatorInterface::initialize()` is now type hinted against `ExecutionContextInterface` instead of `ExecutionContext`.
* The graph walker was refactored into an implementation of the Visitor pattern. This way, the validator was decoupled from the structure of the metadata (class → properties and getter methods) and makes it possible to implement a different metadata structure, as is required by the Drupal Entity API.
As a consequence of the API change, custom validation code is now much easier to write, because `ValidatorInterface` and `ExecutionContextInterface` share the following set of methods:
```php
interface ValidatorInterface
{
public function validate($value, $groups = null, $traverse = false, $deep = false);
public function validateValue($value, $constraints, $groups = null);
public function getMetadataFor($value);
}
interface ExecutionContextInterface
{
public function validate($value, $subPath = '', $groups = null, $traverse = false, $deep = false);
public function validateValue($value, $constraints, $subPath = '', $groups = null);
public function getMetadataFor($value);
}
```
No more juggling with property paths, no more fiddling with the graph walker. Just call on the execution context what you'd call on the validator and you're done.
There are two controversial things to discuss and decide (cc @fabpot):
* I moved the `@api` tags of all implementations to the respective interfaces. Is this ok?
* I would like to deprecate `ValidatorInterface::getMetadataFactory()` (tagged as `@api`) in favor of the added `ValidatorInterface::getMetadataFor()`, which offers the exact same functionality, but with a different API and better encapsulation, which makes it easier to maintain for us. We can tag `getMetadataFor()` as `@api`, as I don't expect it to change. Can we do this or should we leave the old method in?
I would like to decide the major issues of this PR until **Sunday November 25th** in order to give @fago enough room for his implementation.
Let me hear your thoughts.
With this refactoring comes a decoupling of the validator from the structure of
the underlying metadata. This way it is possible for Drupal to use the validator
for validating their Entity API by using their own metadata layer, which is not
modeled as classes and properties/getter methods.
This PR was squashed before being merged into the master branch (closes#5888).

There are circumstances where such logic is required, and it could be desired by the programmer to filter out valid cards for a payment gateway before sending a request.
However, this is already included in JMSPaymentBundle if people don't think it should be in core.

by shieldo at 2012-07-04T15:46:05Z
+1 in principle (certainly the Luhn check). I did wonder whether Visa Electron should also be in there (although, that uses a subset of the Visa range, and the chance that you would be checking for a Visa Electron but *not* Visa at the same time is vanishingly small, so maybe this is unnecessary).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by merk at 2012-07-04T21:25:30Z
@shieldo I did have a concern about the Electron as well, but in the case of an online system doing payment processing, I'm not sure anyone would ever need to check if it was an Electron card or not.

by shieldo at 2012-07-04T21:37:41Z
@merk Yes, in actuality there are always going to be cases you can't trap with a regex - I'd say validation like this is working if it catches a majority of cases of invalid numbers, because in reality ones that get through will just fail downstream anyway. The purpose of the validator isn't to identify individual schemes for numbers, it's to do a sanity check across collections of schemes.
I don't really see any point expanding beyond financial services for a core validator (imho) - I'm not sure how stable some of this information is.

+1 on the Luhn check (without the authorship, just give credit to Greg Knapp), the CardScheme, however, is not really required by most gateways these days, it's a better candidate for a custom constraint.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by merk at 2012-07-11T00:47:20Z
I dont object, but Greg's algorithm has a flaw for odd length creditcard numbers. The unit testing written by Infinite caught this.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Gator92 at 2012-07-11T01:35:46Z
You're right, the Knapp algo is flawed and does not appear to work on odd-numbered length cards.

Add minimum-stability (dev) in each component
This fixes the ability to run the test suite in each component if a `composer install` is needed.

by stof at 2012-08-22T13:57:14Z
If you really want to run the testsuite standalone, some dev requirements are missing (SecurityBundle needs the FrameworkBundle for its functional tests for instance). If you have some time to check the missing dev requirement, it would be great.
Anyway, 👍 for this

Yes I already did that once. I'll try to fix more components later.

Well, I think most components should be good now (as some work has been done on them). But the bridges and bundles may need some work (bundles were not having any dev requirements until yesterday when @guilhermeblanco added some on FrameworkBundle)

what about having for each READ-ONLY repo his own .travis.yml and travisci hook activated ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by fabpot at 2012-08-22T14:30:13Z
please, don't add more travis files. The main already tests everything, and that's all we need.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by stof at 2012-08-22T14:33:46Z
@pborreli tests should not be different for subtree split repos as the code is the same and the tests are the same (except that more tests could be skipped because of missing deps).
Note that for the bundles, it is likely to be different currently as I think some skip tests are missing (just like dev requirements are). But fixing this does not require enablign travis.

by pborreli at 2012-08-22T14:42:30Z
ok, i was just thinking about a way to be sure each component is usable individually but yeah that would require to relaunch each tests and add a bunch of travis files + hook

[Validator] Reintroduced Range constraint and created Count and Length constraints

After @Tobion's comment to #4851, this is the next try to streamline the constraints and reduce duplication of logic. The downside of the current MinLength/MaxLength and MinCount/MaxCount pairs is that they cannot output a fitting error message if a value should have an *exact* length/count. So this PR introduces
* Range (formerly Size) to replace Min/Max
* Count to replace MinCount/MaxCount
* Length to replace MinLength/MaxLength
Feedback is appreciated.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Tobion at 2012-07-11T20:40:08Z
The `choice` constraint also cannot handle `min = max`. Or maybe we don't need these options on choice anymore as we can achieve the same with the new `count` constraint?!

The changes to the `Size` validator yesterday broke my project, and I started rewriting to use `MaxLength / MinLength` validators today, until I spotted this. It would be good if this PR could have a reasonably high priority (whether or not it is accepted) as it will change how I fix my issues. I suspect a lot of people using the master branch will be in the same situation.

This PR cleans up with the current ambiguity between
* Min

* MaxLength
* Range
* Size
in the following ways:
* The Range constraint was removed again as it can be completely replaced by Min and Max.
* The Size constraint was reverted to it's 2.0 feature set and deprecated.
* The constraints MinCount and MaxCount were added to make up for the functionality that was added to Size.

6f9eda9 [Form][Validator] Fixed generation of HTML5 pattern attribute based on Assert\Regex to remove delimiters.
Discussion
----------
[Form][Validator] Fixed generation of HTML5 pattern attribute based on Assert\Regex by removing delimiters or using a new option: htmlPattern.
Hopefully, this time is the good one…
* Fixes: [#3766, #4077, #4513, #4520, #4521]
* Bug fix: yes
* Feature addition: yes
* BC break: no
* Symfony2 tests pass: yes
In Issue #3766, it was asked that Assert\Regex generates HTML5 pattern attribute.
It was done in PR #4077, but the generated Regex is in delimited format which is not supported by HTML5.
Hence, `/[a-z]+/` would be converted to `[a-z]+`.
If flags are specified like in `/[a-z]+/i`, it cannot be converted and pattern validation will be disabled client-side. If is however now possible, using a new option, `htmlPattern`, to specify the pattern you want to be used.
Example:
```php
<?php
/**
* @Assert\Regex(pattern="/^[0-9]+[a-z]*$/i", htmlPattern="^[0-9]+[a-zA-Z]*$")
*/
private $civic_number;
```
**Note**: [Documentation](http://symfony.com/doc/current/reference/constraints/Regex.html) should be updated accordingly.

[Validator] separate numeric values from suffixes in File validation error messages
This change allows me to locale-aware format the numbers in a form theme, i.e., to use a comma instead of a dot. If there's a better way without re-implementing the entire validator, let me know.
Such changes also allow for using a different separator than the usual space in translations.

Using the NumberFormatter class would be an option, but that would also add a dependency when using Validation as stand-alone so using the {{ suffix }} is a good idea.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by craue at 2012-05-13T14:15:54Z
Using a NumberFormatter (if available) directly in the validator might indeed be a good option. In either case, having the numeric value separated from its suffix looks cleaner.

I dislike the rising amount of very specific constraints in the core. Can't we add this to Size?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2012-04-29T09:01:39Z
@bschussek #3918 implements what you propose but then the messages are not valid any more:
```php
<?php
public $minMessage = 'This value should be {{ limit }} or more';
public $maxMessage = 'This value should be {{ limit }} or less';
public $invalidMessage = 'This value should be a valid number';
```
I can imagine 2 solutions:
- adding some more message,
- rename the `Size` constraint to `Range` and create a new `Size` constraint for arrays / countables.
What do you think ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by bschussek at 2012-04-29T09:27:53Z
I'd prefer the second solution and merge `Size` with `SizeLength` as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2012-04-29T09:34:50Z
@bschussek It would make sense. @makasim @Herzult any one of you would like to contribute this (i.e. rename the current Size to Range and create a new Size supporting arrays / countables / strings) ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Herzult at 2012-04-29T14:31:12Z
Yep, I'm on it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by stof at 2012-04-29T15:22:44Z
@Herzult could you take the other comment into account and merge SizeLength into you Size ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2012-04-29T15:33:05Z
The guessers should also be modified (it might also affect the ODM which is in an other repo, if so it would be good to sync the changes).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Herzult at 2012-04-29T16:38:19Z
@stof the problem merging SizeLength into Size is that they don't have the same required options & messages.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Herzult at 2012-04-29T16:47:40Z
And what about renaming Range to Interval and SizeLength to IntervalLength?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by stof at 2012-04-29T16:54:38Z
Well, SizeLength is about matching the length of a string currently. Nothing related to intervals
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Herzult at 2012-04-29T17:29:40Z
Here are the current names:
* **Size** for collection (countable) size
* **Range** for numbers
* **SizeLength** for strings
Merging **SizeLength** into **Size** is maybe not appropriate because collections and strings are different things. It'll be hard to find messages that fit both collections and strings. Maybe we had better to find a better name for both. What do you think?
About the ValidatorTypeGuesser, I'll update it as soon as we know ow to name the constraints.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2012-04-29T17:43:01Z
Size is a good name for both strings and "collections", could we have two sets of strings and select according to the type ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Herzult at 2012-04-29T22:39:55Z
I tried to merge them together, what do you think?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by vicb at 2012-04-30T06:52:37Z
I think your changes are great, may be @bschussek has more feedback. The ValidatorTypeGuesser and the translation are yet to be updated.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by hhamon at 2012-05-01T12:32:28Z
Am I missing something or `SizeLength` for strings is a duplicate for `MinLength` and `MaxLength` constraints?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Herzult at 2012-05-02T13:29:36Z
Yep, that's true. But the only link between this PR and the SizeLength constraint is that I merged it to the one I introduced.

This PR:
* configures each component to use composer to manage "dev" dependencies instead of env variables;
* adds phpunit configuration file on Filesystem component;
* fixes READMEs.
It's mergeable without any problems, but I would recommend to wait a fix in Composer in order to use `self.version` in `require`/`require-dev` sections.
Note: I kept `suggest` sections because it makes sense but this PR doesn't aim to provide useful explanations for each entry. It could be another PR, not that one.

@fabpot I reviewed each component, one by one. Now `phpunit` always works, even if tests are skipped. A simple `composer install --dev` allows to run the complete test suite. Each commit is well separated from the others. I guess, everything is ok now.

by umpirsky at 2012-04-13T19:41:53Z
@stof There were some, so I reverted. Now I'm trying again following instructions from Symfony doc.
I come to this:
```
$ git push origin issue-3379
To git@github.com:umpirsky/symfony.git
! [rejected] issue-3379 -> issue-3379 (non-fast-forward)
error: failed to push some refs to 'git@github.com:umpirsky/symfony.git'
To prevent you from losing history, non-fast-forward updates were rejected
Merge the remote changes (e.g. 'git pull') before pushing again. See the
'Note about fast-forwards' section of 'git push --help' for details.
```
And I don't know how to fix this. Any idea?

@umpirsky when you rebase, it is logical to need to force the push

What is the best solution for the translation of messages?
1. Change messages in the classes and all xliff files?
2. Keep messages in the classes and change all xliff files?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by stof at 2012-02-09T08:19:41Z
The constraints contain the en message so you will need to modify them to update the message
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by hason at 2012-02-09T08:55:55Z
I prefer second option. The Validator component should be decoupled from the Translation component. The constraints contain the en message which is also the key for Translation component. We should create validators.en.xlf in the FrameworkBundle for en message. I think that this is better solution. What do you think?

[Validator] Added GroupSequenceProvider
Bug fix: no
Feature addition: yes
Backwards compatibility break: no
Symfony2 tests pass: ![](https://secure.travis-ci.org/blogsh/symfony.png?branch=dynamic_group_sequence)
As discussed in #3114 I implemented the "GroupSequenceProvider" pattern for the validator component. It allows the user to select certain validation groups based on the current state of an object. Here is an example:
/**
* @Assert\GroupSequenceProvider("UserGroupSequnceProvider")
*/
class User
{
/**
* @Assert\NotBlank(groups={"Premium"})
*/
public function getAddress();
public function hasPremiumSubscription();
}
class UserGroupSequenceProvider implements GroupSequenceProviderInterface
{
public function getValidationGroups($user)
{
if ($user->hasPremiumSubscription()) {
return array('User', 'Premium');
} else {
return array('User');
}
}
}
With this patch there are two mechanisms to define the group sequence now. Either you can use @GroupSequence to define a static order of validation groups or you can use @GroupSequenceProvider to create dynamic validation group arrays.
The ClassMetadata therefore has methods now which implement quite similar things. The question is whether it would make sense to interpret the static group sequence as a special case and create something like a DefaultGroupSequenceProvider or StaticGroupSequenceProvider which is assigned by default. This would cause a BC break inside the validator component.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by bschussek at 2012-01-28T13:39:54Z
I like the implementation, but I think we should differ a little bit from Java here.
1. `GroupSequenceProviderInterface` should be implemented by the domain classes themselves (`User`), not by a separate class.
2. As such, the parameter `$object` from `getValidationGroups($object)` can be removed
3. `ClassMetadata::setGroupSequenceProvider()` should accept a boolean to activate/deactivate this functionality. Also the check for the interface (does the underlying class implement it?) should be done here
Apart from that, special cases need to be treated:
* A definition of a group sequence and a group sequence provider in the same `ClassMetadata` should not be allowed. Either of them must not be set.
* Metadata loaders must take care of settings made by parent classes. If `Animal` is extended by `Dog`, `Animal` defines a group sequence (or group sequence provider) and `Dog` a group sequence provider (or group sequence), only the setting of `Dog` should apply
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by blogsh at 2012-01-28T21:25:37Z
Changes of the latest commit:
- GroupSequenceProviderInterface has to be implemented by the domain class
- The annotation/configuration options let the user define whether the provider is activated or not (is this neccessary at all?)
- An error is thrown if the user wants to use static group sequences and the provider simultaneously
At the moment neither the static group sequence nor the provider is inherited from parent classes or interfaces. I don't know if it would make sense to enable this feature. There could be problems if a user wants to define a static group sequence in the parent class and a sequence provider in the child class.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by bschussek at 2012-01-30T13:07:04Z
> There could be problems if a user wants to define a static group sequence in the parent class and a sequence provider in the child class.
In this case, the setting in the child class should override the setting of the parent class.
But we can leave this open for now. As it seems, [this issue is unresolved in Hibernate as well](https://hibernate.onjira.com/browse/HV-467).

@fabpot done
A new ExecutionContext is now created everytime that GraphWalker::walkConstraint() is
launched. Because of this, a validator B launched from within a validator A can't break
A anymore by changing the context.
Because we have a new ExecutionContext for every constraint validation, there is no point
in modifying its state anymore. Because of this it is now immutable.

[Validator] Dynamic constraints
Bug fix: no
Feature addition: yes
Backwards compatibility break: no
Symfony2 tests pass: yes
By now the Validator component is based on a per-class configuration of
constraints, but in some cases it might be neccessary to add new constraints
dynamically at runtime.
This pull request adds a "ConstraintProviderInterface" to the Validator component. If an object is validated that implements this interface the method "getConstraints" is used to add dynamic constraints:
class User implements ConstraintProviderInterface
{
protected $isPremium;
protected $paymentInformation;
public function getConstraints(ClassMetadata $metadata)
{
if ($this->isPremium) {
$metadata->addPropertyConstraint('paymentInformation', new NotBlank());
}
}
}

I think this is a good addition. I think we still have a naming problem though. When constraints are loaded using a static method, the default name for the loader method is `loadValidatorMetadata`. Since the method for dynamic constraint loading is basically the same, I think the two names should be related.
Solution (1): Rename the method in your interface to `loadDynamicValidatorMetadata`. Ugly and long.
class MyClass implements ConstraintProviderInterface
{
public static loadValidatorMetadata(ClassMetadata $metadata) ...
public loadDynamicValidatorMetadata(ClassMetadata $metadata) ...
}
Solution (2): Rename the default method name in `StaticMethodLoader` to `registerConstraints` and adjust the docs. Breaks BC.
class MyClass implements ConstraintProviderInterface
{
public static registerConstraints(ClassMetadata $metadata) ...
public registerDynamicConstraints(ClassMetadata $metadata) ...
}
@fabpot: Are we allowed to break BC here? If not, we should probably stick to (1).

I would prefer to not break BC if possible.

[FrameworkBundle][CssSelector][HttpFoundation][HttpKernel] [Security][Validator] Minor optimizations for "explode" function
Bug fix: no

Fixes the following tickets: -
Todo: -
I added limit parameter in some places, where it may be usefull. I did not check the context of what values may have been exploded. So to not break anything, I added +1 to limit parameter.
If you find out that in some places limit (or limit+1) is not important or meaningless, write a comment please and I will fix it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by fabpot at 2011/12/07 06:56:49 -0800
Adding +1 just to be sure to not break anything is clearly something we won't do. What is the benefit of doing that anyway?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by pulzarraider at 2011/12/07 13:50:24 -0800
The main idea of making this PR was to notify about some places that may run faster with just adding one parameter to explode function.
If in code is someting like: ```list($a, $b) = explode(':', $s);```
Function ```explode``` will create n-items (depends on ```$s```), but we need in code only the first two items. There is no reason to let ```explode``` create more items in memory that are NEVER used in our code. The limit parameter is there for these situations, so let's use it.
I know that it is microoptimization and may look unimportant, but we are writing a framework - so people expect that code will be as fast as possible without this kind of mistakes.
As I've noticed above, I know that +1 is not ideal solution, but the fastest without debugging the code. I expect that someone (with good knowledge of that code) will look at it and write in comments if variable may contain 1 comma (dot or someting on what is doing the explode) or maybe 2 in some situations or more.
Anyway, +1 will not break anything, because same items are created as it is now, but no unnecessary item is created.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by fabpot at 2011/12/07 23:14:59 -0800
I'm +1 for adding the number to avoid problems but I'm -1 on the optimization side of things as it won't optimize anything.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by helmer at 2011/12/08 12:46:49 -0800
*.. The main idea of making this PR was to notify about some places that **may** run faster ..*
I am also unsure the optimization is really an optimization, care to benchmark (with meaningful inputs)? As for the limit+1 thing, why would you want to +1 it? The number of ``list`` arguments should always reflect the ``limit`` parameter, no?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by pulzarraider at 2011/12/08 23:11:34 -0800
@helmer please try this simple benchmark:
```
<?php
header('Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8');
define('COUNT', 10000);
$source_string = 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb:cccccccccccccccccccccccc:dddddddddddddddddddddd:eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:fffffffffffffffffffffffffff';
$start = microtime(true);
for ($i = 0; $i < COUNT; $i++) {
list($a, $b) = explode(':', $source_string);
}
$end = microtime(true)-$start;
echo 'without limit: '.$end."\n";
$start = microtime(true);
for ($i = 0; $i < COUNT; $i++) {
list($a, $b) = explode(':', $source_string, 2);
}
$end = microtime(true)-$start;
echo 'with limit: '.$end."\n";
```
My results are:
```
without limit: 0.057228803634644
with limit: 0.028676986694336
```
That is 50% difference (with APC enabled). Of course the result depends on the length of source string and if it's too short, the difference may be none or very very small. That's why I said, that it **may** run faster and is just a micro optimization.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by pulzarraider at 2011/12/08 23:18:12 -0800
@helmer And why +1? It depends on a code:
```
$source_string = 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb:cccccccccccccccccccccccc';
list($a, $b) = explode(':', $source_string, 2);
var_dump($a, $b);
```
and
```
$source_string = 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb:cccccccccccccccccccccccc';
list($a, $b) = explode(':', $source_string, 3);
var_dump($a, $b);
```
gives different results. That's why the content of the variable must be known.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by helmer at 2011/12/09 00:08:28 -0800
@pulzarraider Thanks for the benchmark, seems like a gain enough. Although, we are more likely having a scenario of:
``explode(':', 'a🅱️c')`` vs ``explode(':', 'a🅱️c', 3)`` with a ``COUNT`` of 10, where the difference is not even in microseconds anymore :)
The limit addition alters the behaviour though, ie suddenly you can define a controller [logical name](http://symfony.com/doc/current/book/routing.html#controller-string-syntax) as ´´AcmeBlogBundle:Blog:show:something``, and things go downhill from there on.
All that aside, I'm +1 for setting the limit to the exact number of ``list`` parameters, but certainly not number+1, this is just too wtfy (as you said, this was a safety thing, but I reckon for this PR to be merged it needs to be +0).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by drak at 2011/12/09 08:28:58 -0800
Overall `list()` is ugly as it's not very explicit. Even though it would mean extra lines, it's better to `explode()` then explicitly assign variables:
```
$parts = explode(':', $foo);
$name = $parts[0];
$tel = $parts[1];
```
`list()` is one of those bad relics from the PHP past...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by fabpot at 2011/12/11 10:07:47 -0800
@drak: why is `list` not explicit? It is in fact as explicit as the more verbose syntax you propose.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by pulzarraider at 2011/12/11 13:08:50 -0800
@drak: I agree with @fabpot. In speech of benchmarks ```list``` is faster then using a helper variable.
@fabpot, @helmer I've changed explode's limit to be correct (without +1) and removed some changes from this PR, where I can't find out what the content of variable may be. Unit tests pass, so I think it's ready for merge.

Following dependencies do not have a composer.json yet: Twig, Doctrine (orm, dbal, common), swiftmailer.
Also missing from the standard edition: assetic, twig-extensions, jsm-metadata, SensioFrameworkExtraBundle, JMSSecurityExtraBundle, SensioDistributionBundle, SensioGeneratorBundle, AsseticBundle.
The point is, those can be added later on. Having the components composerized is already a leap forward. Also, doctrine depends on some symfony components, we've got to start somewhere.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Seldaek at 2011/09/27 00:36:41 -0700
Also, just for information, the plan is to have `symfony/framework-bundle` be the "framework", with all dependencies to doctrine etc, though we should really only have strict requirements in there, and then in symfony-standard we ship a composer.json that requires the framework-bundle, doctrine-orm and things like that that are not essential to core. Otherwise people don't have a choice about what they use anymore.
Just a comment btw, the json is invalid, all / should be escaped. However json_decode is nice enough to parse those without complaining, browsers do too, even Crockford's json2.js does, so I'm not sure if we should privilege readability over strictness, since it seems nobody really cares about this escaping.

So, I've implemented all of @stof's suggestions, except (for reasons stated above):
* doctrine to DoctrineBundle
* swiftmailer to SwiftmailerBundle
* twig to TwigBundle
* doctrine-common to Validator
* FrameworkBundle (what exactly does it depend on?)

@igorw at least HttpKernel, Routing, Templating, EventDispatcher, Doctrine Common (annotations cannot be disabled), Translator, Form (optional), Validator (optional), Console (optional). See the service definitions to see the others
@Seldaek FrameworkBundle does not depend on Doctrine, except for Common

What does the symfony/ or ext/ prefix control in composer?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

symfony/ is just the (mandatory) vendor namespace. Also ext/ has been renamed to ext- now, so it's not in any vendor, and should avoid potential issues.

@Seldaek Mandatory? So every package name is "vendor/package"? I like that because previously i thought package names are not namespaced, and thus clashes could occur between different communities easily.

@beberlei: Mandatory. As of yesterday http://packagist.org/ will tell you you have an invalid package name if there's no slash in it. See 1306d1ca82 (diff-3)
* 2.0:
[Validator] added support for grapheme_strlen when mbstring is not installed but intl is installed
removed separator of choice widget when the separator is null
* EvanK-patch-1:
Per the [documentation][1], the `NotBlank` constraint should be using the `empty` language construct, otherwise it will not trigger on, for example, a boolean false from an unchecked checkbox field.

[Validator] Added strict option to ChoiceConstraint.
By default, ChoiceValidator was ensuring strict type when checking if value is present in choices. This behavior is a problem when you want to validate against integer values. As all data you will receive from a request will be typed as a string, you won't be able to validate these numeric values.
This patch solves this.
In order for being nice to developers, I've set "strict" to false by default.

[HttpFoundation] Make File extends \SplFileInfo
This is a rebased version of [PR 674](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/674).
* File: The API has changed (now extends \SplFileInfo),
* File: move() creates the target directory when it does not exist
* UploadedFile: introduction of getClientXXX() methods (for Size, OriginalName, MimeType)
If this PR does not get merged UploadedFile should at least be fixed: [Client.php](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/master/src/Symfony/Component/HttpKernel/Client.php#L124) relies on a last parameter which is no more defined and which is used to bypass [move_uploaded_file()](https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/master/src/Symfony/Component/HttpFoundation/File/UploadedFile.php#L155) in test mode.
If this could be merged, I'll detail the changes in UPDATE.md

## [Validator] Allow DateTime objects as valid Times
Also added tests for `DateTime` objects as valid on `Date` and `Time` constraints.
I didn't include the test for the `DateTime` constraint, as it's already included in this PR:
https://github.com/symfony/symfony/pull/1085

I don't think it makes sense to use a \DateTime instance to represent a Time.

## ajessu @ 2011/06/09 09:33:20 -0700
If I have an entity with a doctrine type `Time`:
Time (DateTime instance where only H:i:s get persisted)
```php
<?php
/**
* @ORM\Column(type="time")
* @Assert\Time()
*/
protected $startTime;
```
and I create a form out of this Entity, a `DateTime` object is passed when the form is submitted.
This generates an `UnexpectedTypeException`.
I just made this change to match the `Date` validator with the doctrine type `Date`, which also shares this behavior:
https://github.com/symfony/symfony/blob/master/src/Symfony/Component/Validator/Constraints/DateValidator.php#L28
Date (DateTime instance where only Y-m-d get persisted)

The extension classes are now the only constructor argument of the FormFactory class. They replace the existing "type loader" classes.
new FormFactory(array(
new CoreExtension($validator, $storage),
new CsrfExtension($csrfProvider),
new DoctrineOrmExtension($em),
));
Together with a few upcoming commits this mechanism will make
* extension of the form framework in bundles and
* usage of the forms outside of Symfony2
much easier.
The constraint "Valid" does not accept any options or groups anymore. As per
JSR303 1.0 final, section 3.5.1 "Object graph validation" (page 39),
properties annotated with valid should be cascaded independent of the current
group (i.e. always). Thus the group "*" is not necessary anymore and was
removed from the "Valid" constraint in the Form validation.xml.
Modified the framework bundle to use validation => Symfony\Component\Validator\Validator defaults.
Enhanced Framework Extension validator configuration to allow to extend this configuration with
user-specified annotations, for example:
validation:
enabled: true
annotations:
namespaces:
myprojectvalidator: MyProject\Validator\
to register @myprojectvalidator:Validator(...)
Added ability to specify **match-all** validation group, which
constraints will runs on every specified validation group.
Added groups="*" option to `Form::data` Valid validator.
Before:
/**
* @Validation({@DateTime()})
*/
After:
/**
* @validation:DateTime()
*/
The @validation:Validation() construct is not needed anymore (it is still supported
as this is useful when you have several annotations with the same class).
So, the above is equivalent to:
/**
* @validation:Validation({@validation:DateTime()})
*/
